About Us

Our members meet on a monthly basis on the second Friday of each month at 7:00 pm. Our meetings take place at Black Diamond VFW 1409, 793 E. Main St., Monongahela, PA 15063.

Dues are $35.00 a year.

The Provisions of Constitution Adopted May 8, 1919--the formation of the American Legion. On September 8, 1919 the Monongahela Post 302 Frank Downer was formed.  We have been charging the fight for all active duty and veteran benefits since our inception.  This is a job we hold dear and take very seriously as we continue to grow into the 21st century. On September, 8, 2019, the post will be celebrating our 100th birthday.  In this time the members of the post have played a vital role in the Monongahela area by supporting youth projects and activities and helping provide shelter for homeless veterans. We have pledged to continue to help support the community however possible.

 

Frank Downer was a Sergeant in the Army of the 110th Infantry. He was a machine gunner for his company. The 110th Infantry was made up of local State Militia which Sgt. Frank Downer was a part of Pennsylvania 28th Infantry that was called up to fight in World War I. Sgt. Frank Downer was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for Valor. He was killed in action according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, July 29th 1918 and left behind a widow Ema Downer of Homewood, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
